The Virginia Study
On March 10, 2004, the Commonwealth of Virginia began a one-year pilot demonstration project with 16 agency stakeholders to use and assess the College of Direct Support. The project was done through the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services (MHMRSAS) and was overseen by India Sue Ridout, MHMRSAS Direct of Workforce Development.
All aspects of the findings from this one-year project are included in this Final Report. At the conclusion of this demonstration project, the state of Virginia signed a contract for the CDS to be implemented statewide and has already renewed it.
